Students Earn Top Prizes in Plainfield Library Story Contest

The young authors had to write an original story in 500 to 600 words.

PLAINFIELD, IL — District 202 elementary school students earned seven of the nine top prizes in the Plainfield Public Library’s annual Short Story Competition.

The Short Story Competition is open to third through fifth grade students. The young authors had to write an original story in 500 to 600 words.

The Plainfield Public Library held a finale on Saturday, March 12 for all competition participants.

Author Jenny Meyerhoff acted as judge for this year’s event.

The winning District 202 students, and their stories, are:

3rd Grade:

· 1st place: "The Legend of Summer and Winter" by Nora Dietz, Liberty Elementary

· 2nd place: "The Memory Closet" by Harry Kidonakis, Lincoln Elementary

4th Grade:

· 1st place: "The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood" by McKenzie Gibson, River View Elementary

· 3rd place: "Anastasia - My Story" by Skyler DeBolt, Liberty Elementary

5th Grade:

· 1st place: "Homesick" by Alyssa Lowe, Walker's Grove Elementary

· 2nd place: "Project Perfect" by Cassandra Salkas, Grand Prairie Elementary

· 3rd place: "The Story of Snowflakes" by Ava Koziorowski, River View Elementary

Booklets with the winning submissions as well as the names of all the students who participated in this year’s competition are available at the Plainfield Public Library.
