In the name of Allah the Gracious the Merciful
It is often the case that the words that cause so much peace of mind can cause an equal amount of pain to someone else. Allah (God) is Gracious and Merciful, and in the true practice of Islam, this means Muslims are against killing, and believe in helping people without thought of being helped in return. However there are individuals who believe it to mean they should wage a terrorist attack on innocent civilians, to be granted Mercy in heavens; this is farthest away from the truth.
In essence, I am remembering the terrible Boston bombing last year. Instead of talking about what real Islam teaches, I want to concentrate my efforts on discussing the real everyday occurrences in a Muslim woman’s life.

The truth of the matter is, on a local level, a crazy terrorist attack disconnects people’s hearts from their neighboring everyday Muslim. It keeps the Muslim mother, wife, daughter, aunt, neighbor from connecting fully to the circle around her; for the pain lives on, not just for one year, but for a very long time. It can never be erased. In my own personal experience, one day you can be walking about minding your own business, and bam! Your headscarf identity is thrown at your face, and you wonder where you went wrong? The unrest can involve a co-worker, a colleague, a school associate or anyone you don’t know that well versus the people that know you well by now.
However, it always goes back to the same thing. Like the quote which says, ‘Knowledge is power’, communication and understanding are a great start to generating peaceful relations with each other. May God make it so.
