Three Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Three Plainfield East High School students have been named semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship competition.

PLAINFIELD, IL – Three Plainfield East High School students have been named semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship competition.

Seniors Saumya Madhan, Jeffrey Tilkin and Ibrahim Yousuf are among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who will compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, worth about $30 million.

In order to become a National Merit Finalist, students must have an outstanding academic high school record, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, and earn qualifying SAT scores.

About 1.5 million high school juniors in more than 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
