Tom Cross Concedes to Mike Frerichs in Illinois Treasurer Race

After weeks of counting in the close election, Frerichs pulled ahead when votes were counted from Chicago and Cook County.

Tom Cross has conceded the race for state treasurer to State Sen. Mike Frerichs, D-Champaign. Out of 3.5 million votes cast, ballots from Chicago and Cook County put the Democrat up by more than 9,500.

Cross, who represented the 97th District in the Illinois House, released a statement Wednesday morning:

“With the final votes counted, this election now has a conclusive outcome and I have congratulated Sen. Frerichs on a hard-fought victory. Sen. Frerichs has demonstrated time and time again his commitment to our state and that will serve all of us well as he becomes Illinois’ next state treasurer.”
