No Injuries Reported In Train, Car Crash In Plainfield: PD

The driver and passenger of a sedan were able to exit the car caught in a railroad crossing before a train hit it around 10:50 a.m. Friday.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A train and car crashed at the Main Street Canadian National crossing around 10:50 a.m. Friday. No injuries were reported, according to police.

An investigation determined a white Chevy Impala was stopped in the dynamic envelope of the railroad crossing, just east of Bartlett Avenue, when gates came down to signify an oncoming train. The driver and passenger exited the car before the train hit it a short time later, Commander Anthony Novak told Patch.

The occupants weren't injured, and the car was towed from the scene. Police are conducting an investigation and performing a full review of the incident to determine what citations, if any, will be issued, Novak said.

The Route 126 ramp off southbound I-55 was also closed to reduce traffic in the area, police said.
