Upcoming Railway Crossing To Target Drivers Stopping On Train Tracks: Plainfield Police

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police will partner with CN Railway Police Sept. 16 to target unsafe driving bevahior at various crossings in the village, officials said Monday.

The enforcement initiative will focus on drivers who stop on the tracks and “other traffic violations observed in and around railway crossings.”

The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness, encourage safe behavior and prevent injuries, according to a news release.

“Motorists are reminded that stopping a vehicle on railroad tracks can have potentially deadly consequences,” police said in a news release. “Drivers should never enter a railroad crossing unless they can safely proceed completely across the tracks. Traffic conditions, including congestion and stopped vehicles, can quickly create a dangerous situation.”
