PLAINFIELD, IL — Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to pay a visit to Illinois Friday, making two stops: one in Chicago and one in Plainfield, according to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times.

Reps. Lauren Underwood and Robin Kelly and Sen. Dick Durbin will join Harris in Plainfield, where the group will highlight the administration's work on maternal health, according to the Sun-Times.

"I think it's a great honor to have a sitting vice president visit your town," Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis said. "We didn't get a lot of advanced notice, so it comes as a very pleasant surprise."

From Plainfield, the vice president will make her way to Chicago, where she is slated to speak at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials' first in-person conference since 2019.

Argoudelis will be among the officials at Friday's event. He said Underwood "graciously invited me to be a part of the program, so I will be honored to spend a little time with our elected officials."

"We don't have sitting senators and elected officials come to Plainfield often ... but we're pleased to have them," the mayor said. "These are the types of things we really strive for, and Plainfield is at a point in its history where we are perhaps entering ... a golden age in our modern-day history."

This week's trip will mark Harris' second official visit to Chicago. She made her first appearance in the Windy City in March 2021, stopping at a bakery on the South Side and at a vaccine clinic that operated in Chinatown, ABC 7 reported.

The event is private and invite-only, Plainfield police said. A time and location have not been disclosed to the public.

"We wanted to make the motoring public aware that various roadways in and around town will be greatly impacted with parking restrictions and complete road closures for several minutes at a time, mostly midday," police said Thursday afternoon.
