Video Gambling Back on the Table in Plainfield?
Trustees voted to ban video gambling last summer, but the board is scheduled to revisit the topic on Monday night.

After voting to ban the use of video poker and other video gambling machines within the village limits last summer, Plainfield trustees will be taking another look at the issue on Monday.
Village board members are scheduled to join staff members as part of a discussion on video gaming during Monday night's Committee of the Whole meeting, set for 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport St.
A state law legalizing the installation of video gaming terminals took effect on Aug. 1, 2012. But the same month, trustees voted in favor of an ordinance banning video gambling in Plainfield — much to the dismay of some local business owners.

Vince Athy, owner of Fox's Restaurant & Pub, told Patch he felt the machines could bring much-needed revenue to Plainfield businesses. He also owns a Fox's location in Oak Lawn, where video gambling is permitted.
"Why turn away any tax revenue?," Athy said last summer, pointing out that both the village and the state would get a cut of any video gambling profits.
The Plainfield American Legion post is one of the few Plainfield-area establishments with video gambling terminals, since it is located in unincorporated Plainfield Township, rather than within the village. Nearby Joliet also allows video gambling in its bars and restaurants.

No vote will be taken at Monday night's committee meeting.
