Vote Now: Choose Illinois' Bicentennial Coin

The Land of Lincoln will celebrate its 200th birthday this December.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Illinois is celebrating its 200th birthday this year, and state Treasurer Michael Frerichs is asking residents to cast their ballots online for a commemorative coin. Now through the end of the day June 15, residents can choose their favorite of 5 designs.

One design option depicts an eagle and the Illinois State Capitol. Another includes the year Illinois became the 21st state, along with the names of four presidents with ties to the state — Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. Other options include a coin with the state bird (a cardinal, in case you didn't know) and a leaf from the state tree (the white oak), plus coins with the faces of Presidents Lincoln and Obama etched on them.
