Warning Sirens Activated By Accident: Kendall County Cops

It was just a false alarm, and there was no emergency at Exelon's nuclear facilities, police said.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Outdoor warning sirens were activated on Wednesday by accident, Kendall County Sheriff's police said. It happened at around 10:45 a.m. in the southeast portion of Kendall County. Shorewood police said residents there also heard the sirens on Wednesday morning.

"From our understanding Kendall County has activated their siren system as a test and some of our residents are hearing the siren located in the area of County Line Road and Route 52," Shorewood police said in a message urging residents to disregard the sirens.

Kendall County police said the activation was accidental, explaining KenCom Public Safety Dispatch was removing old console radio equipment and the sirens were triggered during the removal process.

"While Exelon provides these emergency sirens, they are operated by Kendall County," police said. "There are no issues at Exelon’s nuclear facilities."

In Kendall County, when you hear outdoor warning sirens. Please tune to our local Emergency Alert System (EAS) station for further information.
