PLAINFIELD, IL — Trader Joe's. Whole Foods. Costco. Those were the common answers last week when Plainfield Patch reached out to Facebook fans with a simple question: "What business would you like to see come to our town?" The question got nearly 300 responses.
Trader Joe's has long been coveted by area residents, who in years past hoped a location would take up the former Barnes & Noble store on Route 59; although the property owner said they were in talks with the grocery chain, it never materialized. Residents also asked for a Costco — a dream Village President Mike Collins in 2015 said could become a reality by 2017 but so far hasn't.
Other suggestions included a place for a quick bite like burgers or hot dogs (and the return of Frank's Night Out), a healthy dining establishment like Salad and Go, an upscale adult arcade and a non-chain coffee shop (although some readers reminded neighbors that Plainfield does have a great local java shop in 10 Drops Coffee). Also popular were Cooper's Hawk and Chick-Fil-A.

Readers were also clear about what businesses they DON'T want — like more auto parts stores, banks and mattress places. One commenter called for "Portillo's, Trader Joe's, Standard Market, Mariano's, Gloria Jean Coffee, Cooper's Hawk, a decent real brewery like Lagunitas or something Chi-town. Just look around to every other town on our borders that have everything normal ... and not 100 Auto Parts stores and banks."
Another reader added, "(A) Movie theater would be nice too!"
