Where Does Plainfield Rank On Safest Cities List?
A study by the National Council for Home Safety and Security took a look at violent crime and property crime rates.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A new ranking of crime rates from the National Council for Home Safety and Security shows that some of the safest cities in Illinois are right here in the Chicago metropolitan area. Plainfield ranked No. 29 out of 206 cities on the list, coming in just behind Carol Stream and just above Lockport.
Two Will County cities — Channahon and Homer Glen — made the top 10, coming in at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively. Meanwhile, nearby Joliet ranks at No. 135, with a violent crime rate of 3.3 per 1,000 residents.

With a population of 43,063 and 37 reported violent crimes, Plainfield's rate was 0.86 per 1,000 people, according to the study.
Illinois has fewer per capita property crimes than most states but more violent crimes, according to the rankings. Its violent crime rate made it the 35th-safest state in the U.S., when adjusted for population, but it has the 18th lowest rate of property crimes.

Chicago was ranked 195th out of 206 Illinois cities, with a rate of more than 11 violent crimes and nearly 32 property crimes per 1,000 people.
The five least-safe towns on the list were Springfield, Rockford, East St. Louis, Mount Vernon, Lansing and Danville.
