Wine And Popcorn Tasting Event In Plainfield For The First Time
Sable Creek Winery will teach residents how to pair wine and popcorn to bring out their unique flavors, during its walk-in event Aug. 8-9.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The poet Rumi had once said, "Either give me more wine or leave me alone." For centuries, this beverage has been exalted by many, leading connoisseurs to discover the perfect pairing between wine and other food items. While it is quite common to try this luscious liquid with chocolate and cheese, Plainfield residents for the first time will be able to partake in a wine and popcorn tasting.
From 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sable Creek Winery — located at 14912 S. Eastern Ave. — is hosting a walk-in event that will teach guests how to create the best wine-popcorn combination for a movie night.
"Adding wine pairings with different types of foods give people a chance to try a variety of our wines and experience how they might pair with foods that people might not think about eating with wine," said Sandra Harris, owner of the winery. "We will be selecting 4-5 different flavors of popcorn from a local store in Plainfield."

While all their wines, from the signature Cabernet to the Sweet Purple Lady, will be available for tasting, Harris said they will pick a few that would pair well with the salty and sweet popcorn.
"The different flavors of popcorn will bring out different flavors of the wines as you combine the two," she said.

She said they will be pairing the root beer-flavored popcorn with their Cherry Creek wine. The combination of these two, "bring out the unique flavors in the wine and the popcorn."
Since the marriage between popcorn and wine is unusual, Harris said she hopes the event will draw a large crowd. The winery will follow all CDC recommended guidelines. The tasting will only be provided every half hour to limit the amount of people participating in order to have ample space for social distancing and time in between tastings to "thoroughly sanitize the tasting area."
The pandemic was challenging, but the winery continued to provide curbside pick and home delivery.
"We received an incredible amount of support from the people of Plainfield and are very appreciative of it," Harris said. "We are a full working winery so even though we were not able to open to the public during the pandemic, we were busy getting our spring wines ready and bottled to release."
Tasting at the event have been priced at $10. For more information, visit the Facebook page.
