Chain Opens 1st IL Restaurant: 'An Incredible Milestone'
The Southern-style fast-food restaurant is serving its signature "Chicken Fingerz" and "Zax Sauce" at its new spot in the Chicago suburbs.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Illinois's first Zaxbys, in Plainfield, is officially open for business.
The Southern-style fast-food restaurant opened Jan. 19 at 13429 Route 59, the former Slim Chickens restaurant. The franchise is owned and operated by a Chicago native who also operates four other Zaxbys in the Kansas City area, the company shared in a news release.
"Bringing the first Zaxbys to the Chicagoland area is an incredible milestone, and I am thrilled to join the Plainfield community," the owner said in a statement. "As a Chicago native, I am beyond excited to introduce a brand I love to the city that shaped me. I cannot wait to serve our guests and make a lasting positive impact in the community."

Born in Georgia, Zaxbys specializes in fried chicken, including chicken fingers — or as the chain calls them, Chicken Fingerz — as well as sandwiches and wings.

Spanning 2,450 square feet, the new Zaxbys is equipped with 60 dine-in seats as well as a drive-thru lane. Customers can order ahead through the restaurant's website or its app. Delivery is also an option.
Plainfield will celebrate its Zaxbys with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February. The event will feature prizes and giveaways, activities for the community and a donation.
The new restaurant is expected to create 75 new jobs, a company spokesperson said.
