Today's riddle: What has 2 arms and a neck but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. 2026FC40 NonCook Sale (Legal) (qconline.com) — A Rock Island home at 2308 38th Street is headed to an online sheriff's foreclosure auction from October 5–7, with the winning bidder required to pay in full within 24 hours. The single-family property is being sold as-is, subject to taxes and court confirmation, and will not be open for inspection. Homeowners retain possession rights for 30 days after any possession order.
2. 23ja64 (qconline.com) — A juvenile court hearing involving a minor identified as N.K. is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at the Juvenile Center on 18th Street in Rock Island. The notice warns respondent Cody Hinden that the court may terminate parental rights and appoint a guardian if he does not appear and contest the petition.
3. Coffee shops, food banks mark Hunger Action Month (ourquadcities.com) — Rock Island residents can support Hunger Action Month simply by ordering special drinks at Brews Energy and Wholly Grinds, which are partnering with River Bend Food Bank all September. Several Quad Cities bridges will glow orange on Sept. 29 to spotlight hunger, and locals are encouraged to donate, volunteer, or participate at eight area coffee shops. The campaign addresses rising food insecurity across River Bend's 23-county region.
4. Center for Independent Living will hold Senior & Disability Expo in Rock Island (ourquadcities.com) — Residents can check out a free Senior and Disability Expo at Bally's Convention Center in Rock Island on Friday, Sept. 11, featuring information on healthcare, housing, transportation, and more. Attendees can enjoy breakfast, screenings, scam-prevention tips, and chances to win gift cards and a hotel stay.
5. Funding extension approved for Quad Cities passenger rail (kwqc.com) — Quad Cities residents, including those in Rock Island, are a step closer to finally getting passenger rail service to and from Chicago after federal officials extended a key grant deadline. Illinois leaders say the extension lets IDOT keep using remaining funds, building on the state's earlier $475 million commitment. The project aims to expand travel, education, and business options for local residents.
