Rockford Police, Fire Depts. Compete In Blood Donation 'Battle'

Police and fire department members compete while encouraging community members to donate blood and support River Rock Valley Blood Center.

ROCKFORD, IL — Rockford Police and Rockford Fire Departments are competing throughout the week to see who can donate the most blood at Rock River Valley Blood Center during "Battle of the Badges." In a Facebook post, the police department says the competition is a joint effort between Rockford Police and Rockford Fire to increase awareness about the need for blood donations in the community. They're also encouraging residents to support the badge (department) of their choice by donating blood.

The battle began on June 11 and runs through June 14, as the Rockford Fire Department says the winning department will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 15 during a trophy ceremony at the corner of E. State St. and 3rd St., which also happens to be when the losing department will go into a dunk tank. There will also be music, food and the chance to donate.

If you'd like to donate at Friday's event, or before then, call the Rock River Valley Blood Center or stop in at one of the locations.
