Rockford Woman Killed In DUI Crash; Driver Charged

The collision west of Woodstock claimed the life of a 29-year-old Rockford woman. The 30-year-old driver now faces charges.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – Bond has been set at $80,000 for a Rockford man accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a passenger in his car, police said. The driver, Jose Loredo, has been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI alcohol and aggravated DUI involving death in connection with the Feb. 25 crash. The 29-year-old Rockford woman killed in the collision has been identified as Ilian Gonzalez, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said in a news release.

The single-vehicle crash occurred west of Woodstock just before 8 p.m. on Sunday when a Hyundai headed west on Kishwaukee Valley Road left the roadway at Mckinstry Road in Seneca Township and struck a tree, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Illian Gonzalez, a front seat passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Loredo was taken to Centegra Hospital in Huntley for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He was later released and taken to the McHenry County Correctional Facility.

Loredo remained in custody as of Tuesday morning, according to online jail records. He is next expected in court on Wednesday.

An autopsy on Monday revealed Gonzalez died from blunt trauma to the head, Majewski said.

The accident remains under investigation.
