Small Plane Crashes Into Residential Neighborhood In Boone County: NTSB

POPLAR GROVE, IL — A plane crashed into a residential neighborhood near Poplar Grove on Saturday, officials with the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement.
Preliminary information shows the Whittman Tailwind crashed "under unknown circumstances" into the residential neighborhood, according to the NTSB.
"NTSB investigators are en route to the scene and is expected to arrive shortly," NTSB officials told Patch Saturday night. "Once on site, the investigators will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered to a secure facility for further evaluation."

Authorities said one person was on the plane and their condition was not known as of 9:30 p.m., according to NBC 5 Chicago.
The Boone County Fire Protection District officials said residents living near the plane crash were temporarily evacuated due to an active gas leak, according to media reports.

"The scene remains active and we ask the public to please avoid the area so our emergency crews can
operate safely and efficiently," fire officials said.
No other information, including the extent of injuries to those on board the plane, were immediately available.
