Name Of Toddler Killed In Rockford Fire Released
Officials say the 22-month-old died from exposure to carbon monoxide.

ROCKFORD, IL — A toddler killed in a Monday morning house fire in the 700 block of Winnebago Street has been identified. WIFR reported 22-month-old Matthew Raines was found by firefighters in a bedroom on the house's second floor, before the toddler was taken to a local hospital where he later died from exposure to carbon monoxide during the fire. According to the news report, neighbors who live on the street are in shock after hearing the news of the fatal fire, as one said they heard hysterical cries for help around 1:45 a.m. Monday.
There were four other people under the age of 18 that were able to make it out of the burning home safely, in addition to a family dog that was also rescued.
WREX reported Monday the family is being assisted by the Red Cross as they won't be able to return home due to $40,000 worth of damages from the fire.

According to WREX, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
