Winnebago Co. Deputies, K9 Capture Burglary Suspects

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, IL — Winnebago County Sheriff's Office officials say their deputies were called to the River Keys Estates area in Machesney Park early Friday morning for several car burglaries that happened overnight. Sheriff's officials said a deputy located a suspicious vehicle park in a driveway in the 6700 block of Key Largo Drive, adding they found a female in the passenger seat of a vehicle reported stolen out of Indiana. The plates on the vehicle came back as stolen out of Chicago, sheriff's officials said.

Another deputy got information of a black male with dreadlocks running from the area and carrying a black bag. Deputies and assisting Loves Park Police Department crews set up a perimeter until a sheriff's K9 unit arrived to track the man, officials reported.

The sheriff's K9, Chico (pictured), started tracking the man into a thick wooded area along railroad tracks off of Bergstrom Road where the suspect was seen running from deputies, officials said. According to a release, the suspect was caught in a field near Old River Road after a short chase.

Chico searched the area the suspect was seen and found a black bag with stolen property inside, which ended up matching several area car burglary incidents and two home burglaries.

According to a sheriff's report, Winnebago County Detectives interviewed the two suspects and both were taken to the Winnebago County Jail, where they're being held on the following charges:

Darvis R. Dennis, 30, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of residential burglary, aggravated resisting arrest, possession of stolen license plates and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Izalis Morales, 19, of Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle.
