24 Valley View Wrestlers Advance to Sectionals

Sectionals will be held next weekend.

Two dozen Valley View School District 365U wrestlers qualified for the IESA sectional competition by finishing in the top four in their weight class at regionals over the weekend.

Brooks Middle School eighth grader Cameron Hargrove won the 90 pound division at the Yorkville sectional, while at the New Lenox sectional, Lukancic grabbed two firsts (eighth grader Julian Garcia at 126 and eighth grader Christian Dondiego at 155), Humphrey took home two firsts (sixth grader Elias Medina at 70 and eighth grader Jaden Thurman at 185) and Martinez added a first (eighth grader Rafael Carpintero.)

Other state qualifiers from the combined Lukancic/Martinez team include Lukancic wrestlers Jayden Ruiz (fourth at 80 pounds), David Zarco (third at 85), Jaylen Jones (third at 112), Milo Rodriguez (second at 126), Tyler Rehbok (second at 135), Christopher Martinez (third at 135), Osbaldo Penguia (third at 145), and Leo Bermudez (third at 167); and Martinez wrestlers Anthony Mark (fourth at 119), Donovan Dehoyos (second at 185) and Jose Oregon (third at 275).

Other Brooks state qualifiers include: Higinio Hernandez (fourth at 95), Jamari Fry (third at 119) and Rolando Ibarra (third at 135).

Other Humphrey qualifiers: Elliott O’Brien (second at 65) and Justin Brown (second at 75)

Qualifiers from Jane Addams include: Deandre Turner (fourth at 155) and Jackson Garfield (fourth at 215).

Sectionals are next weekend. Brooks wrestlers head to Huntley. The other four VVSD schools go to Reed-Custer.
