Almond Milk Recalled In Illinois For Containing Real Milk

Those with sensitivity to milk could have life-threatening allergic reactions, the FDA warns.

ILLINOIS — More than 145,000 cartons of almond milk have been recalled in 28 states, including Illinois, due to contamination with real milk, according to the FDA. Half-gallons of vanilla Almond Breeze were recalled because the label does not list milk as a possible ingredient, which could put consumers with dairy allergies at risk.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," the FDA said. "The product is safe to consume unless you have a milk allergy or sensitivity."

So far, one person has reported having an allergic reaction after consuming the Almond Breeze, but did not have to be hospitalized, the FDA said. (Get Patched In: Subscribe to free daily email, news alerts, Facebook fun and more from Patch)
