ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Romeoville Police Department will be conducting roadside safety checks in the village on May 22, heading into the Memorial Day weekend, the department shared in a news release.
"The safety checks are intended to promote the safety and well-being of the motoring public and serve as a deterrent to those who violate laws pertaining to the safe operation of a vehicle," a news release states.
Police said safety check enforcement will focus on defective equipment, license or permit violations, proof of insurance, use of seat belts and violations involving alcohol or drugs.
Safety checks will be conducted "at locations and during those hours which will provide the maximum opportunity for the detection and apprehension of motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or other substances," police said. Exact locations were not given.
