The Public Works Department is planning major improvements to the wastewater treatment facility, which will contribute to the overall efficiency of how the plant operates, both in terms of energy consumption and the biological treatment process.
Highlights include upgrading/replacing aging infrastructure like pumps and other specialized equipment while also upsizing existing pipes, making modifications to allow for natural, biological processes that will greatly reduce the need for chemicals, and installing equipment to serve as emergency backups.
“Wastewater treatment isn’t something the average person thinks much about, but it is an extremely important process for the health of our community,” said Mayor Noak. “These improvements are necessary as our equipment ages and our town continues to grow.”
The contract for the work was awarded at the last Village Board Meeting as well as approval for the IEPA’s SRF Low Interest Loan Program to fund the project.
