ROMEOVILLE, IL — A new park will move forward in Romeoville, with the acceptance of a proposal for the Ward Property phase 1 park development at the Romeoville Village Board's meeting on July 15.
The proposal comes from Wight and Company for engineering and design services for the Ward property. The Village will also apply for an OSLAD grant for the development.
Ward Park will be located just to the southeast of Weber Road and 135th Street, on the south end of the Monarch Grove Senior Housing and Apartment project. The park site will be roughly 9 acres split between two areas.
Director of Parks and Recreation Kelly Rajzer said phase 1 of the project will include construction of a pavilion, parking lot, raised community garden beds, walking paths, native planting areas, open green space, outdoor fitness stations and stormwater management improvements.
"In addition, we plan to incorporate the salvaged material from the original Ward barn into the project to preserve and celebrate the property's historical significance," Rajzer said.
"This is going to be a good project," Mayor John Noak, adding that there will also be a historical marker at the site sharing the past of the property.
