To better connect with the youth and seniors of the community, the village board passed an ordinance creating both the Young Leaders Advisory Council and the Senior Advisory Council. These groups will report back to the Village on a variety of topics.
The Young Leaders Advisory Council is a body created to provide feedback and input to the village manager on youth related matters in the Village and to give youth perspectives on a variety of issues. They will have seven members, aged 15 to 21, appointed by the mayor for one year terms with the advice and consent of the village trustees.
The Senior Advisory Council is being created to recognize the contributions, needs, and perspectives of residents aged 62 and older and to further the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life of senior residents. They will review and make recommendations to the village board on a variety of matters of concern to seniors like transportation/mobility, housing and aging in place, health, recreation, social inclusion, public safety, access to information, and digital inclusion. They will also identify needed areas of services for seniors and outreach to underserved senior communities, such as the disabled, veterans, and those who speak/read limited English.
"We think this is a great way to hear from our residents directly on what is affecting them," said Mayor Noak. "Our team looks forward to collaborating with these new groups as we look to expand opportunities within our community."
