Romeoville Grandmother Abused 2 Grandchildren For Years: Police

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A Romeoville grandmother is facing charges of aggravated domestic battery after allegations of abuse of her two grandchildren, according to Romeoville police.

Romeoville Police said they responded to a business on Highpoint Drive on Saturday after a missing/runaway juvenile was found.

Officers saw that the juvenile had injuries consistent with abuse, police said.

The child reported to police years of physical abuse by a grandmother and said that a younger sibling had also suffered similar mistreatment.

Police said injuries observed by officers were severe and consistent with these allegations.

Detectives then met with Cassandra Mosley-Dagons, 56, at her home on Harmony Lane.

Mosley-Dagons told police she was home alone; however, police said detectives found the juvenile sibling inside the residence. This child also displayed signs of abuse, police said.

Mosley-Dagons was taken into custody, and both children were taken to a local hospital.

Prosecutors said the grandmother is accused of whipping her 16-year-old grandson with an extension cord and hitting his hands with a bludgeon, causing injuries to his face and a broken finger, according to the Herald-News. Prosecutors said the teen boy had multiple scars and welts.

The boy also alleged that Mosley-Dagons, who was homeschooling the teens, had abused his 14-year-old sister, according to the report.

The Department of Children and Family Services responded and is providing ongoing services for the juveniles.

Mosley-Dagons is facing charges of aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery and domestic battery. Additional charges may be considered pending further interviews and investigation, police said.

At a hearing on Monday, a judge granted prosecutors' petition to deny pretrial release for Mosley-Dagons. Her next court date is scheduled for Oct. 13, according to jail records.
