WILL COUNTY, IL — The Citizens Against Abuse will hold its 28th annual rally and light ceremony on Oct. 8, the organization shared in a news release.
This year's event will be held at The Levy Center in Bolingbrook.
Citizens Against Abuse works to raise awareness of the reality of domestic violence and inspire unified action towards its elimination and prevention, the organization said.
This year's event takes a stand on "shining the light" against human trafficking, the group said. The event will feature information from several organizations, providing awareness on abuse prevention and services available to victims of abuse.
The featured presentation is from Jacqueline Sanders of the Reclaim 13 organization, which provides services to victims of human trafficking. State Representative Natalie Manley will also speak, the organization said.
"We know that many individuals and families suffer severe
impacts to their lives as a result of human trafficking," Chairperson Reverend Elmer Harris said in a news release. "This event brings very important information to our community to hopefully prevent human trafficking but also learn of support services for this major issue and other forms of abuse."
The free event will include food provided by Tailgaters and Bolingbrook Costco. There will also be a raffle, and silent auction. Attendees should still register so space can be provided.
Proceeds from the event support funding for various events and programs offered by the organization throughout the
year, the nonprofit said.
