-Lockport Gallery Seven in Lockport opened its exhibit Art of Illinois: A Bicentennial Celebrationto a “bursting at the seams” crowd on Saturday, October 6th. Over 60 artists from around the state are part of this exciting exhibit, which is on both the second and third floors of the Gaylord Building.

Presenting the awards and a certificate of Recognition from the Illinois State Senate was Senator Pat McGuire. Donna Arnold from Romeoville was one of the featured artists with her photograph Broken.

“My inspiration for this image came to me from a dream. I was in total darkness in the middle of a body of water trying to keep myself at the surface. I could feel the icy cold waters pierce my skin as I was becoming weak and out of breathe. As I slowly stopped struggling to stay above water, I felt a sense of inner peace and decided to let the icy water consume me. I woke up in a deep sweat and knew I had to take this dream and transform it into my art. My work allows me to explore the imagined, be dream-like and mystical. Broken is one out of a series of images about a woman banished to the sea, fighting to survive but ultimately letting the sea consume her. If you listen closely, you will hear my art speak to tell a surreal story.”

Gallery Seven is managed by a group of local artists, located at 200 West 8th Street, Lockport. This free gallery is open to the public Noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, and Noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. All exhibited work at Gallery Seven is for sale.
