Athlete of the Week: Romeoville Outside Hitter Latasha Fizer
Senior leads Spartans to 12-9 record

Romeoville resident Latasha Fizer is a rare breed.
Not only is she an outside hitter for the girls volleyball team, but also a three-time state qualifier in track and field.
In today’s specialized world of one-sport athletes, the 17-year-old found a balance between the two and is the Romeoville Patch Athlete of the Week.

When did you first start playing volleyball? In 2008 when I was in eighth grade.
What other sports do you play now or did you play when you were younger? I also run track.

What advice do you have for girls who are just beginning to learn the sport? To stay dedicated and committed to the sport and give 100 percent effort all the time.
What’s it going to take to make Romeoville High School a strong volleyball program? To make a strong volleyball program, we need to have girls that play the sport because they love it and not because it's after-school activity.
What’s your most memorable athletic moment? Making it to the state track meet my first three years of high school.
What was your most embarrassing sports moment? My most embarrassing sports moment was going up for a hit and completely missing the ball, costing us the game.
Who are your favorite athletes? USA volleyball players Destinee Hooker and David Lee.
What are your goals for the 2011 season? My goal for our team is to beat our conference record from last year. I want to continue improving and get recruited.
