Baseball: Romeoville’s Jeremy Pociask Tattoos Pitches Against Bolingbrook

The senior left fielder/pitcher launched a couple two-run homers in Saturday's doubleheader, finishing with 5 RBIs on 3-for-5 hitting.

Late May begins the end for senior ballplayers careers.

The performance Romeoville senior left fielder/pitcher Jeremy Pociask gave during Saturday’s road doubleheader against Bolingbrook was then the perfect sendoff for the three-year varsity starter.

Pociask jolted two towering home runs on 3-for-5 hitting and 5 RBIs as he moves into his final playoff games beginning this Monday on the road against Waubonsie Valley.

The first game, Pociask was struck out in the second by Bolingbrook senior pitcher Zach Kuchta. Pociask made adjustments in the fifth by scooting up in the box a bit and shortening the swing.

This produced a towering two-run homer to deep left-center field, tying the game at 2.

“He got me 0-2,” Pociask said. “I was just looking to put the ball in play somewhere hard. I got the count 1-2 and he hung a fastball over the plate. I put a good swing on it and the ball just happened to go out of the park.”

Pociask’s home run began a four-run rally for the Spartans to lead 4-2. The Raiders came back with three runs in the bottom half, making it 5-4 Bolingbrook.

Next inning, Pociask has senior center fielder Brian Weber at third base. He hit the ball to the third base line and scored Weber for the tying run.

“I knew I had to put the ball into play somewhere and I hit it off the end of the bat,” Pociask said. “I hit it hard in the gap, though he almost caught the ball. I got lucky.”

In game two, Poiask tattooed another two-run homer to left-center off Bolingbrook junior pitcher Trent Smith to give his team a 3-2 edge.

Romeoville assistant head coach Pat Flynn said Pociask ahs been playing well this year and came out of a batting slump in a big way.

“He’s starting to take good swings, take strong hacks and good things are beginning to happen for him,” Flynn said. “He’s been doing fine. He’s a senior who has been a three-year starter. This isn’t his first rodeo, so he knows how to hit.”

Pociask said Flynn has helped better his swing significantly while head coach Tony Smith works on his pitching mechanics. He does not know if college ball is for him, but he said he is interested in possibly playing for Benedictine University or Joliet Junior College.
