Cooling Centers Available In Romeoville, Early Start Time For Garbage Pick-Up

Heat index values could reach 105 degrees on Thursday in Romeoville.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Hot and humid weather is expected for the rest of the week, and Romeoville residents are reminded that the Village has cooling centers available for those in need.

The Recreation Center, at 900 W. Romeo Road, is open as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

If residents need a cooling center after those hours, they can contact the police department at 815-886-7219.

The Village also shared that Waste Management will move up their start times on Thursday and Friday pick-up days. Trash should be at the curb by 5 a.m.

A heat advisory has been issued for most of central Illinois, including southern Will County in the Chicago area.

The advisory is in effect from noon Wednesday to 9 p.m. Thursday and heat index values of 100 to 105 are expected. Thursday looks to be the hottest day, the weather service said.

The weather service advised drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning, out of the sun, and to check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should also never be left in vehicles.

Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea and weakness, the weather service said. Signs of heat stroke include confusion, dizziness and becoming unconscious.
