Discounted Weather Radios Available in Plainfield

The radios will be offered Aug. 26 and 27 at a discounted price of $10 for Plainfield residents and $15 for non-residents.

The Village of Plainfield will be offering NOAA Weather Alerting Radios at a discounted price for two more days this summer. On Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 the radios will be on sale for $10 for people that live within the Village limits of Plainfield, and for $15 for all non-residents.

The radios will be offered at a discounted price of $10 for Plainfield residents and $15 for non-residents. Pick-up times will be from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. each day. People interested in the radios may come to the Multi-Purpose Room at the Plainfield Law Enforcement Center at 14300 S. Coil Plus Drive.

There will be representatives on hand from Midland and Walgreens that will assist in programming the radios, if desired. The Plainfield Emergency Management Agency encourages all residents and businesses to purchase and use a NOAA All-Hazard Weather Alert Radio.

August 28 marks the 25th anniversary of the 1990 tornado that impacted Plainfield, Crest Hill, Joliet, and many other surrounding areas. Since this storm, meteorologists and emergency responders have been working to improve the early warning time for people as the severe storms develop and approach, and as recently witnessed in Coal City and other communities around the State, this early warning does save lives.

The Village of Plainfield has partnered with Walgreens Corporate Safety Division and the local Walgreens stores to distribute Midland Weather Alert Radios for a discounted price to ensure as many people receive these life-saving devices as possible.
