DuPage Township Plans New Food Pantry, Will Close Romeoville Location

Once the new facility is completed in Bolingbrook, the site in Romeoville will be closed.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Plans will move forward for a new DuPage Township food pantry and resource center in Bolingbrook, now that $3 million in federal funding is now secured.

The Township said that the new facility will replace the existing food pantry that is in a former DuPage Township garage in Romeoville.

“We deeply appreciate Congressman Foster’s commitment to the residents of DuPage Township,” DuPage Township Supervisor Gary Marschke said in a release. “With these resources, DuPage Township can offer easier access and better distribution to residents and their families.”

The Romeoville location is in the Parkwood Avenue industrial avenue, and has limited accessibility and poor access for multiple vehicles, the Township said. The site is also not ADA compliant.

The proposed new site in Bolingbrook is within blocks of the DuPage Township Administration Building and will be designed for ease of traffic flow and will be accessible by public transportation, according to the Township.

The new site will house the food pantry and also have space for programs as part of a resource center.

The Township said that 70 percent of those using the food pantry are from Bolingbrook, so the new site will better serve the greater number of residents.

"We are bringing the food pantry to the people who need and use it," said Trustee Tom Braxton.

Once the new facility is completed, the site in Romeoville will be closed, the Township said. The sale of the Romeoville property will help offset costs for the new resource center.

"We look forward to increasing services to the residents not only in DuPage Township, but also Wheatland Township as they are our partner at the pantry, along with greater efficiency at the new location," Marschke said.
