Ex-Bolingbrook Cop Named New VVSD Safety Director

Carter Larry will take over the role filled by beloved Valley View staffer Leroy Brown, who died in October.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A former Bolingbrook police lieutenant will take over as Valley View School District's new safety director. Valley View on Tuesday announced it has selected Carter Larry, a veteran of the Bolingbrook Police Department, for the role.

"Mr. Larry is a familiar face in the Bolingbrook community as he served as a member of the Bolingbrook
Police Department for 20 years," Valley View said in a news release. "His wide range of duties included service as a school liaison officer from 1999 through 2007."

Larry left the Bolingbrook Police Department in 2016 to become a security analyst for the Horton Group in Orland Park, where his roles included managing and implementing security awareness in order to mitigate and manage risks for clients.

Larry served for four years in the United States Marine Corps until 1990, then earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Judson University.

He has also served as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Bolingbrook High School and has been a volunteer teen discussion leader for Helping-Enriching-Advising-Reaching-Teaching (HEART).

He takes on the role last filled by Leroy Brown, a longtime Valley View staffer and Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor. Brown died at age 73 on Oct. 31.
