Family, Pizza Delivery Driver Take Cover from Gunshots in Lockport Township: Police

Deputies found a bullet lodged in the living room wall.

A family of four and a pizza delivery driver took cover from gunshots fired from a passing vehicle in Lockport Township Tuesday night, Will County Sheriff’s police said.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said was no one was hurt in the incident, reported shortly before 8 p.m.

A Nobes Avenue homeowner told police the family had ordered a pizza from Pizza Plus in Lockport. When the 25-year-old delivery man came to the door, the homeowner gave him a $100 bill. When the pizza delivery man was unable to make change, a male subject who was visiting the home left in his vehicle to go to a nearby gas station to get change for the $100 bill, the resident told deputies.

While the homeowner, a relative, two small children and the Pizza Plus employee waited for the man to return, they heard a vehicle driving down the street, then the sound of several shots being fired, Hoffmeyer said.

The family and pizza delivery man got down on the living room floor when they heard the gunfire and were not hurt, she said.

The male subject returned with change for the $100 bill, paid the delivery driver and left the scene before deputies arrived, Hoffmeyer said.

Sheriff’s police found a bullet hole in the front door of the home and the bullet was lodged in a living room wall, according to Hoffmeyer. She said it was not the family, but a neighbor who called the police to report shots fired in the area.

The incident is under investigation. Hoffmeyer said police intend to speak to the male subject who left the scene following the shooting.
