Fifth Annual Spartan Classic Planned Saturday

Marching bands from across the state will compete at the Classic, and showcase their skills in field show performances.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Romeoville High School Marching Spartans will host the fifth annual Spartan Classic on Oct. 1.

Marching bands from across the state will compete at the Classic, and showcase their skills in field show performances, according to event organizers.

This year's Spartan Class will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, at Romeoville High School's stadium, 100 N. Independence Blvd.

Bands are classified in three class sizes, A, AA, and AAA. Bands of America scoring sheets are utilized by a panel of caption judges, and first, second and third place awards are given to each class, according to event organizers.

The caption awards will be awards that can be used in the school’s band program, such as a snare drum, color guard flag bag and more.

In addition, the special needs King Cobras Drumline have been invited to perform in a special showcase, organizers said. The RHS Marching Spartans will also present their show, "Sparta," as
an exhibition performance.

Anyone is welcome to attend and support the marching band. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and five and under are free. All proceeds support the RHS Marching Band program.
