Four Candidates Seek To Replace McAsey

State Rep. Emily McAsey stepped down after eight years.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Four candidates are looking to replace State Rep. Emily McAsey (D-Lockport) after her recent resignation. McAsey, who represents the 85th District including parts of Romeoville, Bolingbrook and Lockport, reportedly submitted her resignation June 1 after her husband accepted an out-of-state job. The vacancy must be filled within 30 days.

Will County Democratic Party Chairman Scott Pyles told the Daily Southtown that four candidates have applied for McAsey's seat: Lockport Township Trustee Dean Morelli and Collector-elect Karen Johnson, along with Will County Assistant State's Attorney John Connor of Lockport and Jared Taylor of Romeoville.

The application deadline was Monday, but more candidates could be considered if their applications are postmarked by that date, Pyles said. McAsey's replacement is slated to be announced next week.
