Fundraiser Set Up for Animal Rescue That Lost Six Animals in Fire
The Joliet rescue was run out of a rented home, which was destroyed.
Tragedy has befallen a group of friends who run an animal rescue out of their home, which caught fire killing six animals.
Tasha Truong, Keilah Jones and Mike Walley all help run A Pack of Misfits Animal Rescue in Joliet. According to its website, the nonprofit aims to take animals and show them there is a place for them in society where they can fit in, as well as educate the public on shelter life. The business provided boarding, training and daycare, among other services.
Shortly before the fire, Tasha ended up in the hospital with several puncture wounds after trying to break up a dog fight. That night, her home burned down.

To help get the business and her friends’ life back together, Jill Paukstis has started a GoFundMe campaign.
“They lost pretty much everything and now we’re trying to raise funds,” Paukstis said. “Their livelihood was based out of that house.”

Medical bills for the animals that had smoke inhalation also are piling up. According to Paukstis, Truong did have renter’s insurance on her home, but that won’t be able to cover everything.
Paukstis said she’s hoping to raise $25,000, but so far only $11,000 has been raised.
