Girls Soccer: Slow Start, Injuries KO Romeoville
Plainfield East 5, Romeoville 0. The Spartans couldn't recover from two early goals and losing midfielder Vicky Arriola to a knee injury.
It was a tough day all the way around for the Romeoville girls’ soccer team. After surrendering two goals to Plainfield East in the first three minutes, they lost senior midfielder Vicky Arriola to a knee injury, which stopped play for several minutes.
“She (Arriola) had surgery last year and today she felt it pop a couple of times and that was it,” Spartans coach Nick Rausa said.
She was taken to the hospital by her parents for an X-Ray.

As for the rest of the game, the Spartans (4-7-1) were able to contain the aggressive Bengals attack for a majority of the game and had a few chances to get on the board that fell short.
“We had some good shot opportunities and we connected a little better with the forwards than we have in past games,” Rausa said.

The Bengals finally broke through midway through the second half, adding three more goals in an eight-minute span to secure the win. Midfielder Cynthia Pineda scored a hat trick for the Bengals.
Rausa hopes his team will be healthier for the playoffs.
“We need to have our bench back, plain and simple. We had three players get hurt and that didn’t leave us with a lot.”
The Spartans play Plainfield South at home on May 12.
