Groundbreaking Held for New Athletic/Event Center

The village of Romeoville is excited to announce the groundbreaking of the Romeoville Athletic and Event Center at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2, 2012.

The 21 Terrace Lane facility, estimated at 70,000 square feet, will provide unique opportunities to the vast and growing sports market. Offering two indoor soccer fields and potential for two IHSA basketball courts/volleyball courts, this facility will certainly meet the demands of many local sports enthusiasts.

Once completed, residents will also enjoy the village square, which will serve as a gathering place as well as space for future community events.

"As the first component in the downtown redevelopment project, the new athletic center will be a catalyst for economic development by attracting attendees from around the region who will contribute to the local economy," Mayor John Noak said.

"It is our expectation that this center will encourage additional restaurants and commercial/retail development in the downtown area as well as reinvestment along the Route 53 corridor."

As construction proceeds on the athletic center, plans continue for the existing retail center to be demolished once all leases have been honored. The completion date for the new Romeoville Athletic and Event Center is anticipated in December 2013.
