Home Near Route 53 and 135th Street Damaged by Fire

Neighbors gathered in a quiet neighborhood just east of Route 53 and 135^th Street this afternoon to watch as firefighters battled a blaze at a home at 369 River Edge Drive.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the mid-afternoon fire in unincorporated Will County, which left the tri-level home with extensive smoke and fire damage in the lower level and rear of the structure.

According to Lt. Robert Vargo of the Lockport Fire Protection District, a witness who was driving past saw smoke coming out of the home and called 9-1-1 after kicking in the front door and determining the home was unoccupied.

Vargo said no injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
