Hot Plate Sets Off Fire Alarm at Romeoville High School
Students briefly evacuated on first day of school.

The first day of school at Romeoville High School kicked off with some brief excitement Tuesday morning after a smoking hot plate set off smoke detectors at the campus.
Director of Community Relations Larry Randa said a teacher was using a hot plate in a science storage area at around 7:15 a.m when it began to smoke, setting off the alarms.
Students briefly evacuated the school. While there was some smoke from the hot plate, there was no fire, Randa said.
