Joliet Montessori School Opens Parent Toddler Class
Joliet Montessori School opens parent toddler class for children ages 18-36 months, and welcomes new families to their community.

Joliet Montessori School is pleased to announce the opening of its newest program, the parent toddler class. The Thursday parent toddler class is offered to children ages 18-36 months with a parent or caregiver. Classes will meet every Thursday from 9:30-11:00 AM in eight week sessions beginning on March 17, 2016. The first session will be directed by Kathleen Cornstubble, a certified Association Montessori International (AMI) directress with over 30 years of Montessori experience, and a longtime friend of JMS. She will guide parent and child as they start their Montessori journey at Joliet Montessori School. The prepared environment will aid the child in the development of concentration, language acquisition, coordination of movement, independence, and instill a love of learning. For parents, the program aims to demonstrate the ways a Montessori approach will help them provide the best for their children both at school and at home.
Joliet Montessori School’s carefully prepared environment offers children a place to explore that is ideally suited for a toddler’s needs. It is a unique opportunity to allow time for the children to choose independently from activities that benefit development. Through this early exposure to Montessori theory and practice, parent and child will gain an understanding of the structure of a Montessori classroom. Upon reaching the age of three, children in the parent toddler class have the opportunity to join the primary classroom for children ages 3-6 years old.
Joliet Montessori School has been serving children since 1966, and currently offers programs for children ages 3-15. The Montessori method was developed over a century ago by Italian pshysician and educator, Maria Montessori. Her fundamental idea was that all children carry, unseen within, the adults they are destined to become. Montessori education focuses on growing and learning through hands on experience and self directed exploration, under the guidance of a specifically credentialed adult.
