Casey Moss, a New Lenox resident and Lincoln-Way West High School graduate is performing on the Tilted Kilt Miller Light stage from noon to 4 p.m. Moss is known for his ability to play well-known covers in unique ways.
For example, while playing the Beatles classic “Come Together,” Moss knocks on his guitar, turning it into a percussion instrument. He has been playing the instrument for a decade and gives lessons to children.
Moss is known in the New Lenox and Manhattan areas. He plays regularly at Gatto’s, 1938 E. Lincoln Highway. His father, Scott Moss, sometimes accompanies him with vocals. Moss credits his dad for the classic rock influence. Otherwise, Moss prefers the blues.
“A lot of my roots are in blues,” Moss said. “That’s what I enjoy playing the most.
The Fourth Annual Will County Celtic Fest is expanding to a second day this year. The musical lineup over the two days includes a mixture of traditional Irish music, bluegrass and Celtic rock. There is also a combination of national acts, such as Colm O’Brien, formerly of Prodigals fame, as well as local favorites John Condron, Anne Hattfield, and Alex Hoffer, according to Eric Johnson, owner of Flipside Works. Johnson’s company organized the entertainment.
Adding Moss to Sunday’s schedule made sense. His style will suit a wide variety of tastes. Moss opens day two of the fest after Mass in the grotto at 11 a.m. During Moss’ break, Keigher Irish Dancers will perform at 2 p.m.
The Will County Celtic Fest is hosted by the Irish American Society of County Will, a non-profit organization since 1981. It will be held at St. Joe’s Park in Joliet. Admission is $7 for adults. Children five to 12 admit for $3, and ages four and under are free. All activities in the Allied Nursery Children’s Area are included in admission. The fest raises money for student scholarships.
