Lockport Fire Protection District and the Romeoville Fire Department responded to an explosion that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. stemming from a NICOR gas leak. The location of the explosion is at the intersection of Strawflower Coutt and Wespark Boulevard in Romeoville. NICOR employees were in the process of repairing the gas leak, which was reported earlier in the afternoon.

Two town-home units have been destroyed due to the explosion. No injuries to residents have been reported, however, two NICOR workers have been injured; one in serious condition, and the other is being reported as having minor injuries. Both have been transported to the hospital.

Several units surrounding the explosion have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Emergency personnel and NICOR personnel are still detecting gas. NICOR is currently working on shutting off the main in this area.
