Lukancic MS to Host 2-Week Care Package Drive for Veterans

Students will also write letters to deployed soldiers.

For the second straight year, Lukancic Middle School will host a two-week drive to collect items for care packages to be sent to United States military troops stationed overseas.

The Romeoville school will launch the Patriot Day service project on Aug. 29.

Items needed by Operation Support Our Troops include: jelly (30 ounces or less, no glass); crackers (12 ounces or less in a box); body lotion, body wash or shampoo (12 ounces or less); granola bars; fruit snacks; snack crackers; cookies; microwave popcorn; instant oatmeal packets; mechanical pencils and pens; and hot chocolate.

Lukancic students will also write letters to deployed soldiers as part of the project.

Care package donations may be dropped off at the school, 725 Normantown Road, Romeoville, during school hours Monday through Friday.

Operation Support Our Troops-America is a grassroots effort that has become one of the largest volunteer based military support organizations in the country. The group endeavors to provide comfort and care at home and away to active duty military, families and veterans.
