Man Sentenced for Stealing Semi-Trailer Full of Candy in Romeoville

Roderick Earl Nunn stole a trailer containing $175,000 worth of Wrigley candy products for a Romeoville distribution center.

A former Chicago man who pleaded guilty to stealing a semi-trailer full of candy from a Wrigley company trucking facility in Romeoville was sentenced Monday to six-and-a-half years in prison for that crime, as well as several other trailer thefts.

Roderick Earl Nunn, 40, of Memphis, Tennessee, admitted to stealing the semi full of candy from the Romeoville distribution center in March 2012.

According to a release from the U.S. attorney’s office of the Western District of Michigan, Nunn was sentenced to 78 months in prison for stealing semi-trucks and trailers containing more than $1 million worth of goods traveling in interstate commerce.

Nunn was driving a semi-trailer containing $175,000 worth of candy from the Romeoville facility when he was stopped by police for a broken taillight outside of Marshall, Michigan, according to the Chicago Tribune. He and the stolen cargo were reportedly headed to Detroit.

He pleaded guilty to that crime in March 2014. At sentencing, the court determined that between 2006 and 2012, Nunn had stolen eight other semi-trucks and trailers containing more than $1,000,000 worth of goods, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

“Protecting the shipment of goods between the states is important to the financial well-being of our citizens,” Patrick A. Miles said. “We continue to vigorously prosecute these types of brazen thefts.”

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Michigan State Police Southwestern Commercial Auto Recovery Unit, the Marshall, Michigan Police Department, and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Clay Stiffler.
