Marketing Specialist Hired To Promote Events Center, Downtown
Romeoville approved a contract Wednesday to pay the Fred Barofsky Co. $10,000 a month to market and promote the new downtown initiative.

The village of Romeoville has hired a marketing consultant to help promote the new Athletics and Events Center as well as the downtown redevelopment initiative.
The village board on Wednesday hired the Fred Barofsky Co., which specializes in real estate marketing and marketing and operating sports and event centers, to help the downtown area become more vibrant.
Barofsky will be paid $10,000 a month starting Dec. 15 and ending Nov. 1, 2013, according to village documents.

Among the duties of the company will be to work with public and private groups to identify potential users, activities and events for the new Athletics and Events Center and market the Route 53 corridor from Honeytree Drive to 135th Street.
The consultant will recruit businesses -- with an emphasis on a grocery store -- to future storefront locations in the downtown, use social media and other advertisements to attract visitors to the area and give the board bi-weekly progress reports.

Progress on the downtown redevelopment initiative will be posted to the village’s official Web site in the coming weeks, officials said.
Village officials said hiring an outside specialist will help market the area, a 10-acre parcel bounded by Phelps Avenue, Town Hall Drive, Route 53 and Alexander Circle. The Spartans’ Square shopping center will be demolished in two stages, starting this month and ending in June.
The village recently broke ground for the Athletics and Events Center, which is expected to be completed in December 2013, at Town Hall Drive and Phelps Avenue. The $8 million project will house indoor soccer, basketball and volleyball along with multipurpose rooms for community events.
