Martinez Trio Qualify for Valley View Spelling Bee

District-wide winner will be crowned Feb. 3 at Humphrey Middle School.

It took two days of competition, but A. Vito Martinez Middle School selected its representatives for next week’s Valley View School District 365U Spelling Bee Thursday.

Zoey Anthony is the 6th grade representative with Stacy Hernandez serving as alternate. Kyleyanna Fitzpatrick will represent 7th grade with Isidro Gomez the alternate. Carver Miller won the 8th grade competition. Morgan Franzen is the alternate.

Anthony won in the 6th round by spelling infringe and freight correctly. Earlier she correctly spelled respect, aren’t, premium and trifle.

It took 17 rounds before Fitzpatrick notched the 7th grade victory over Gomez and Iesha Yillah by correctly spelling histrionics and ragamuffin. She also was perfect on saying, arrow, stubble, cohesive, stridency, lambasted, extinguish, ostracism and cumbersome.

Miller correctly spelled bountiful and exorcism in round 9 to win the 8th grade title. Other words he got right included podium, lawyer, avenge, duplicity, and divvy.
